A mask form the Kenyah Dayaks, probably resembling a "funny man" and possibly used to amuse.
Painted with raised eyebrows and a bold right side of black inverted teardrop like design that curls past the upper mouth, Pierced lobes and cartilage with a painted black to depict a "missing" tooth, a mole to finish this mask superbly. Attached is also a moustache of spotted leopard hide. This mask shows good signs of use and wear and possibly dates from the late 19th to early 20th Cent. Attached on the back is a rattan mouthpiece. Overall, it is a fantastic mask, in very good condition and has good patina. Would compliment any oceanic or indonesian art collection.
