Superb and finely carved, very worn hilt with 4 very fragile thin inner spirals (all intact), on the side profile the bulbous top reselmbles elephant head with ears, eyes and trunk as the spiral. Below it the head of the aso (top profile) with relief arms on the sides, to the left a side profile aso head with one arm within the oval cavity of the bottom left inner spiral. Surrounding the intricacies of this hilt are 4 mouths of the aso deplicted with jaggered teeth. The krowit rattan bindingof the handle is missing, leaving a visible a ling but stable drack in it's place. The overall principal shape of this hilt is also the shape of the aso hea (a mystical dragon dog) underworld figure for protection commonly found in Dayak art and is generally thought to confer protection upon those who possessed this image.
